"The hobbit: an unexpected journey" (hfr imax 3d) is un UNEXPECTED VISUAL JOURNEY... The VFX are something that you have never seen before, that will change film forever and that you will see a lot more in the future.
The film story is....bha... However, WETA just created a new kind of film and it is IMPRESSIVE.
Watching this I had the same feeling that I had when I watched the first Matrix; I understood that after this picture ,film, was going to change (for me, "the matrix" radically changed the action genere for ever). As soon as directors and viewers will learn how to use this new medium things will change, and in a good way. I want to congratualate all of my friends that had the luck to work on this "game changing" film. You guys just pushed the bar A LOT HIGHER...

"Rise of the guardians" Very well done
Yesterday I went to watch "Rise of the guardians". It was a Saturday night screening at the 21:30(9:30 P.M.)show and the theater was full of kids. Well, it was a very nice screening with an incredible responsive audience. Everybody was laughing a jumping together with the film and everybody enjoyed the show. This means that it worked for its target audience.
As for me I found the film visually well done. The animation was PHENOMENAL (The first sequence is just perfect), the modeling of Jack Frost has A LOT OF CHARACTER, the effects were amazing and overall the technical quality of the film was very, very high. I am very impressed by the quality that Dreamworks is producing these days. The story lacked of something... Like a song without a base line, but the characters were strong and consistent.
The only bad notes that I can find are about: The character of the "greyhound" was just off the mark and SPOILER ALERT the "Tooth delivery" sequence was animated a bit too cartoony (Still, amazing animation work with great acting and spot on timing of movements...just it was not consistent with the animation style of the entire film)...
I really really want to congratulate everyone that worked on it. Well done ppl! These r the films that make kids (and adults) want to be part of this magic industry.
P.S. Finally Dreamworks makes very good human characters!!!

The Little Match Girl - Disney
A animator/Animation TD friend of mine Santiago Montesdeoca sent me the link to this video, it is the The Little Match Girl produced by Lion King's producer Don hahn (I have read his book "Brain Storm: Unlashing Your Creative Self" and it is quite inspiring). The whole short is Disney quality spectacular, the art is beautiful and the acting is personal and hones. My only problem is with the fairy tale itself; I never understood the message in this story, it feels like an Italian Neo-realistic film plot where the character starts in a bad place and ends up worst. However, it is very pretty and touching so, enjoy :D

Don Hertzfeldt has been one of my favourite animators of the recent years. He become famous for Rejected Super independent, utterly sarcastic and not always direct in his messages he has created a wide variety of films; some more funny and some more serious. However I really like his stile and his "hands-on" approach to film.
Don Hertzfeldt won Sundance with The Meaning of Life and now it has made a new film!
I can't wait to see it!!!!

I want to share this because it is one of the reasons I love animation and cartooning...
Sometimes life can be very hard, there are many bumps along the road and the road is very long... However I have learned that if we keep doing what we need to do, with diligence, sacrifice and hard work, we will get where we want to be.
This little loop says so much with so little...Everything that is necessary to be told is easy to understand beyond words, languages and cultures...
March on everybody and never give up (even if you look goofy and you have a cherry bottom)!!!

The Looney Tunes Show: Silent But Deadly. Why is this not working?
This cartoon has very good composition but the basic premise of it still doesn't works
Why? Because Chuck Jones wrote these simple rules for this cartoon and the people that are now working on it are really not taking them in consideration.
1. The Road Runner cannot harm the Coyote except by going "meep, meep."
2. No outside force can harm the Coyote -- only his own ineptitude or the failure of Acme products. Trains and trucks were the exception from time to time.
3. The Coyote could stop anytime -- if he were not a fanatic.
4. No dialogue ever, except "meep, meep" and yowling in pain.
5. The Road Runner must stay on the road -- for no other reason than that he's a roadrunner.
6. All action must be confined to the natural environment of the two characters -- the southwest American desert.
7. All tools, weapons, or mechanical conveniences must be obtained from the Acme Corporation.
8. Whenever possible, make gravity the Coyote's greatest enemy.
9. The Coyote is always more humiliated than harmed by his failures.
10. The audience's sympathy must remain with the Coyote.
11. The Coyote is not allowed to catch or eat the Road Runner.

I never know what to think about visuals without a story...
Some things have amazing appeal but no story and some stories have touching moments but no appeal at all. I guess the balance is, as usual, in the middle but is it really fare to judge them in the same category?
